🎃👻 This Halloween, let’s raise awareness for Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI).

Too much insulin = severe hypoglycemia, depriving the brain of glucose and leading to neurological harm.

An interesting riddle for those curious to know about consanguinity in 15th century. 🙃

The GRACE project is also involved in creating awareness about genetics and genetic conditions in families with consanguineous marriages in the UK.
Consanguity riddle from the 15th century: A count had twelve knights, all of whom had the same mother – four were his sons, four his brothers-in-law and four his sons-in-law. How could this be possible? Use these handy figures to work it out.

💨 Data from over 300,000 UK Biobank participants show that air pollution can raise older people’s risk of a condition causing unbearably itchy skin.

Almost 16% of late-life eczema cases could be prevented by cutting air pollution in the worst-affected areas researchers estimate.

It was great to speak with Dr Zoe Williams about the importance of regularly self-checking, it takes two minutes, once a month – if you notice something unusual speak to your GP.

Self-checking not on your to-do list this month? Make sure you set a reminder!

The GRACE project was delighted to be part of this vibrant festival celebrating the diversity of Milton Keynes. We're excited to continue fostering greater participation from diverse communities in genetic research.
This month is Milton Keynes City of Codes and Light Festival 2025 – a celebration of where science meets art, organised by Milton Keynes Islamic Arts and Culture.

I had the opportunity this weekend to see the breathtaking “Mind and Matter” projection at the Milton Keynes Central Library.
