Prisons don’t make us safe. Louisiana, the most incarcerated state in the country, is not the safest. We rank badly on education & health. Former plantations have become prisons or petrochemical plants. The state keeps extracting from Black and poor communities. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Telecom companies, sheriffs and prisons all over this country, have benefitted financially from the suffering of people incarcerated and their families. If the state insists on incarcerating as many people as possible, it should be willing to accept the cost. veritenews.org/2024/11/19/p...
