Do I have any Burke scholars among my followers? I’m trying to figure out where the claim in the screenshot (from Loughlin’s “very short introduction” to the British constitution, tragically uncited) comes from. Did Burke precede Arendt on the imperial boomerang??

Northwestern's fantastic press team sometimes sends media advisories about faculty willing to talk to reporters about specific events... and let one include a quote in those advisories. Sometimes I lightly abuse that power... (re: SCOTUS + national guard in Chicago; alt text may be more readable)

The court also observes the shifting justifications and plans for the national guard, though unfortunately not mentioning that deploying federal forces for ordinary crime control would be unconstitutional under Lopez and Morrison

The 7th circuit does its damn job and lets the order keeping the troops in the barracks stick around. Relevant bits in screenshots: obviously no rebellion and obviously capable of [massively over-] enforcing the laws w/o troops. media.ca7.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/Opin...

This is also another fantastic example of "every accusation is a confession." For how many years have they falsely accused democrats of bringing in immigrants for the sole purpose of voting for them? Now look, deliberately selecting immigrants who agree with them politically, gee I wonder why...

I don't particularly believe this story, the NYT keeps claiming that Harvard has a deal without any actual evidence
