Sorry, the sudden cold is my fault. Satan, who controls Chicago weather, likes to make it as miserable as possible whenever I'm about to get on a plane from LA back to Chicago to try to get me to quit my job and become a professional beach metal detector scavenger to not have to live in the Midwest.

I love reading the WSJ because you can just see the normie republicans crashing out when they realize that the fascist is doing a bad job and it hurts them too

lol the WSJ has noticed that the only "justice" to seem sympathetic to Donald Trump's Personal Stamp Act is the most dishonest partisan hack to sit on the court since Taney

This would be a firing scandal in any other administration but TBH the bigger scandal is that someone is willing to date Kash Patel (does he have J Edgar Hoover-style dirt on her?)

Why in the ever-loving fuck would you have a letter of recommendation upload form with a sufficiently confusing double negative right at the start that it requires an explanatory addendum?

For some reason I’m on the boomers getting fleeced spam list, so periodically I get to see how people are robbing them AND the lies that the maga people are being told.

Do I have any Burke scholars among my followers? I’m trying to figure out where the claim in the screenshot (from Loughlin’s “very short introduction” to the British constitution, tragically uncited) comes from. Did Burke precede Arendt on the imperial boomerang??

Northwestern's fantastic press team sometimes sends media advisories about faculty willing to talk to reporters about specific events... and let one include a quote in those advisories. Sometimes I lightly abuse that power... (re: SCOTUS + national guard in Chicago; alt text may be more readable)

Maybe have them stay at your homes too. We can get that constitutional pokemon completed, damnit

The court also observes the shifting justifications and plans for the national guard, though unfortunately not mentioning that deploying federal forces for ordinary crime control would be unconstitutional under Lopez and Morrison

The 7th circuit does its damn job and lets the order keeping the troops in the barracks stick around. Relevant bits in screenshots: obviously no rebellion and obviously capable of [massively over-] enforcing the laws w/o troops. media.ca7.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/Opin...

This is also another fantastic example of "every accusation is a confession." For how many years have they falsely accused democrats of bringing in immigrants for the sole purpose of voting for them? Now look, deliberately selecting immigrants who agree with them politically, gee I wonder why...

Senator Hale, 1851, dropping truth bombs about the Fugitive Slave Act that apply just as well to Trump's efforts to send troops do "mass deportation" against the will of the people (Cong. Globe, 31st Congress, session 2, p. 598)

Hells to the yes, Judge Ellis is doing her job! Temporary injunction against all kinds of lawless behavior in the journalists getting tear gassed suit, including badge concealment

I don't particularly believe this story, the NYT keeps claiming that Harvard has a deal without any actual evidence

... but if this part is true I really hope they aren't stupid enough to buy any so-called assurances. You want him to stop at Austria too? www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/u...

Or as I put it in the Gowder Footnote Tirade (tm) (my fantastic co-author gets no blame for this one) in a recent article ( gowder.io/AGSelfReferr... ):

From the end of an email I sent to a reporter about Trump's war on Chicago. See alt text for full relevant part

I'm wearing a tie so you know that Trump did another fascism and it's time to explain that to the tv-viewing public
