Trump's CEA is circulating its estimate of the economic cost of the government shutdown.

But, BREAKING: It's wrong. It makes a simple arithmetic error. And it's dishonest.

Surprising, I know. 🧵

Medicaid is certainly in the headlines now as a well-loved cornerstone of America's health care system. "Nearly all adults (97%) say Medicaid is at least somewhat important for people in their local community, including about three in four (73%) who say it is “very important.” @kff.org
Medicare and Medicaid were created 60 years ago today. Medicaid now covers more people than Medicare. But, when we created this timeline for @kff.org's San Francisco headquarters, we couldn't find any news headlines from 1965 that mentioned Medicaid.

Our new report on the role of Medicaid for women of child-bearing age in rural areas w/ state by state data is here

Medicaid covers 47% births in rural areas

Rural areas have been losing labor + delivery units. Medicaid cuts will make this scary situation even worse for moms and babies.

House E & Commerce Ctte all night Medicaid markup over

The Committee voted on party lines for at least $625 billion in Medicaid cuts thru a series of complex policy changes.

I'm deeply dismayed that the House is rushing to cut Medicaid w/o understanding the full impact + no complete CBO score.

As Congressional Republicans push for Medicaid work requirements, here’s how it’s going in Georgia:

Deloitte Consulting is taking in tens of millions in tax dollars to manage the country’s only Medicaid work requirement program — and sell it to the public.

Only 3% of those eligible have enrolled.

Great piece by PBS.

How CBO views a Medicaid work requirement:

Little effect on employment.

Saves the federal government $109 billion over a decade.

Causes 600,000 people to become uninsured. But, that assumes states pay $65 billion to offset federal cuts and maintain coverage for 900,000 people.
