It doesn't seem like this should work, but it totally does! You can even still video chat with others over Insignia (Xbox Live) in 2025.

For people who want to mod their #OriginalXbox but keep the stock experience, check out UIX Lite. It retains the classic feel, but adds extra menu options and even renders in 720p!

Context: LoveMHz uses this as an example that PrometheOS stole parts of his code. When I asked the author, Equinox, about this he has this to say about the apparent similarity (attached).

Exciting news from Prehistoricman. He's figured out how to flash v1.6 #OriginalXbox systems! For 20 years, this nut hasn't been cracked, but now, for the first time, all Xbox consoles will be able to be hardmodded without using a modchip.
