For me the only hiatus I took was for my health and that was doctor's orders, I had no choice. I think, in the end, I found what I want to do with my life and this is it. So for me, it's hard to imagine other people not wanting to do this their whole lives.

I feel like if I had gotten to really play with others I would have liked it significantly more. Though I never did quite find a class I really meshed with. Ah well, it's not like my backlog is small, I have a million things left to play and not nearly enough time.

This kind of stuff never happened in L4D2, DRG, MonHun, even Darktide. But playing with bots is a lot like playing with bots in L4D2. It's doable but it's not exactly super fun. Also I really dislike the gearing system in Vermintide 2 but maybe I don't understand how crafting works properly.

The skill tree update as a whole has definitely been a huge improvement. I was referring more specifically to the voc-nerf in the followup patch. I have heard good things about martyr zealot as well but I don't play zealot much either. I mostly stick to my vet though I've been having fun on psyker.
