It’s been a while, but I think Pandemic Legacy has an explicit rule about this. I’m pretty sure if everyone realizes that a misunderstood rule would have made the last session significantly easier were it right, there’s a set bonus everyone gets.

Being a cooperative game probably helps there.

Firaxis’s XCOM 2 DLC also had “The Lost,” weak but numerous zombie hordes that could show up at the same time as stronger enemies. You’re right, there’s definitely room for an RE Tactics game that leans more into that sort of thing.

This made me curious, so I looked up the etymology and tried to find any other English word that shares the same root. Maybe people can’t be gormful, but they can do gaum!

From what I‘ve read, the charged particles around Earth orbit do have a distinctive smell once they get brought inside and you remove your helmet.

But the description I saw described it as a mix of burnt steak and welding fumes, so I can’t say I’d want to smell like that intentionally.

I think, I hope at least, that caring about people and making connections to them is worth the fear of losing that. It’s the whole point, which is why it makes problems so much scarier.

But I also know that can be cold comfort when so much of the world is actively threatening those connections.

Do you have to die for it to count? I’m wondering if America’s might be “unwillingly sent to a faraway planet.” Guardians of the Galaxy, John Carter of Mars… maybe others I’m forgetting?

My favorite one of these is the comic book origin of the Avengers’ name. The Wasp suggested “something colorful and dramatic, like… The Avengers, or…”

And everyone present thought the Wasp’s first idea was awesome. The name had no special meaning beside that. 😄

I’ve found myself saying “I’ve watched a streamer play it” before. And even before livestreaming was a common thing, I used to describe my experience with Metal Gear Solid as “I played 2-4, and watched a friend play the first one.”

I started with The Shining, and went from there. But he’s written a ton, and most of them are standalone books, so it probably depends on what kind of book you’re looking for.

I don’t think that applies to modern copyright. I believe corporate copyright is a flat 120 years, and personal copyright is the creator’s life plus 90 years.

You need to use a trademark to keep it, but trademarks usually cover things like names or logos; just selling merch should keep that active.

It’s a great series. I’d definitely recommend it.

Shuos Jedao from Ninefox Gambit and its sequels.

Or possibly Kel Cheris from the same series.

Or maybe the two characters as one, with the ability to swap movesets. Pay attention to their shadow!

Thinking about it, that fear has stuck around with fish. I like to swim, and sea life is really interesting, but if I’m in the water with any fish nearby I get nervous.

I think it might be a visceral sense that I’m in their environment, without most of the structures or systems meant to protect me.

It’s funny, until I was 9 I lived in a rural area with forests and mountains.

But the scale of everything out there always scared me. It was beautiful, but there were days when just looking out into the trees was scary. I appreciate the forest, but I don’t think I was comfortable there.

It’s harder to do “someone was in the room but you only notice them when they moved” in prose. But I can imagine stuff like: the protagonist hears a noise and checks that the front door is locked, goes back to bed, and misses when the person in the front closet stops holding their breath.

My weird opinion is that Stephen King’s The Mangler probably could have been adapted as an episode of Supernatural. The whole story felt like an episode of a monster-of-the-week TV show written before those were common.

For a home invasion book, nothing comes to mind. But it could probably be done?

Ah, no problem. Just figured I’d ask. Thanks!

Out of curiosity, do you remember the podcast or episode? That sounds like it’d be interesting to listen to.

Not exactly the same, but I always loved that Asura’s Wrath had a “shut them up” button prompt any time a villain launched into an expository monologue. If you hit the button, Asura punches the villain mid-speech and starts the ensuing battle early.
