I have a pet language. Quackery. It's an introductory concatenative programming language.

🧵 Depending on where you are in the world, it might already be February 4, 2025—and if it isn’t, it will be soon. So happy 100th birthday to the waves and particles that used to be Russell Hoban! Thanks for all the beautiful words and for helping to enlarge the limited-reality consensus. #Hoban100

A Quackery Engine in hardware is possible and advantageous.

It just requires a WOMAN* to make it happen.

*i.e someone with Willingness, Opportunity, Money, Authority, and Need.

Shedload of disclaimers, but…

"Therefore, the mammalian brain that provides the closest comparison to a recent LLM like GPT-4, based on quantifiable and comparable aspects, is that of a cat."

That's pretty impressive if correct, but also, how far would you trust a cat?

Sneak peek. Going to be a long while before it actually does anything, and even longer before it goes online, but one day…

A chatbot read The Book Of Quackery so you don't have to.

(The review will tell you if it's something you might want to read or not.)

Chat-GPT o1 -preview's "thought" process weirdness. It is occasionally multilingual. Here it suddenly "thinks" in Turkish for a moment.

(Reminders: 1. Only use it for stuff you are already good at. 2. Don't believe the hype. Using it well is a skill that you need to learn. 3. It's cheap: see pic.)

Watch out for low flying Ovimacropi lanigeri (aka Lesser Spotted Woolly Jumpers – the rare sheep/kangaroo hybrids.)

Coding Quackery in Javascript means going through the Python version with a fine-tooth comb. And that means I keep thinking "I could have done /that/ tiny part better", so now I'm updating the Python version too.

Don't hold your breath. The Javascript version will take as long as it takes.
