Looking back over my non-bird photos this year and the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest stands out in my memory. It is at the top of Washington, close to the Canadian border.
Such a beautiful place and we had such perfect weather.
This is Mount Shuksan as seen from Picture Lake.

It's Wrensday Wednesday!
So here's one of my favourite fairywren photos from 2025. Not one, but four white-winged fairywrens at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, Port Augusta.

I remember taking this shot.
I was sitting quietly by a sheep trough when I saw this spotted harrier approaching.
So I got ready and rattled off some shots as it flew by - low and slow - hunting.
It had no idea I was there.
My favourite raptor, btw.

An excellent experience this year was the birding cruise out of Bellingham where I got to see puffins for the first time. In this case, they were tufted puffins - seen at Smith Island in the Salish Sea. Such a fantastic day shared with my son, daughter-in-law, and good friend, Mary.

White Bellied Sea Eagle, flying along the base of a cliff, recently.
Always a thrill photographing this.
Wish I was swimming but it’s too hot to do anything today. 40+ here.

Another one from the vault ...
The Milky Way over the Woolshed Flat Wesleyan Methodist Church which was built in 1859.
I used light painting to illuminate the church as I took this long-exposure shot.

A feisty Ms Girri enjoying some raucous fun and more wingercizing.

Comment from Dr Cilla Kinross earlier today: "A shy retiring peregrine is unlikely to thrive in falcon-world. Feistiness is an essential attribute."

Predictably, News Corp have ignored teachers’ pleas for them to stop pitting schools against each other by publishing uncontextualised rankings. Since they’ve ignored this, I’m sharing the list of Australia’s most untrusted brands. News Corp number 8 - should be higher! A toxic stain on Australia.
