in general, we ate really well, saw a lot of cool things, and met some wonderful people.

next time, i'm looking forward to exploring a few new neighborhoods in tokyo, and revisiting the hakone area 8)

kyoto highlights:
- kamigamo shrine out in the burbs where we might have been the only tourists
- the maple garden at kitano tenmangu, especially having it all to ourselves (!), and especially the dango + tea at the end ;a;
- taku sando wagyu sandos omg
- yasaka koshindo, a teeny temple in gion

osaka highlights:
- whale sharks!
- our apartment-style hotel room holy heck it was so nice to spread out a little. plus LAUNDRY.
- HENRY'S PIZZA. omg
- eorzea cafe better vibes than tokyo (also we won 2nd place in the cactpot)

miyajima highlights:
- the in-a-house okonomiyaki restaurant run by three grandmas
- making friends in the ropeway car when we agreed it was scary to be so high above the forest lol
- the lady at the splendid little lunch cafe nihongo-jouzu'ing me completely out of the blue
- the tides. seriously.

tokyo highlights:
- breakfast sushi at tsukiji outer market, 7am
- someone had put a googly eye on a "don't feed the pigeons" sign's pigeon
- meiji-jingu, despite the rain
- the great big enthusiastic "ohayo gozaimasu!!" from a tiny grandma one morning
- kobe beef curry
