A deep interest in the pre-Windows home computer revolution, specifically the 8-bit, Commodore, and Amiga scene that defined that period of immense technological change for the home computer user.
IT is FREAKIN' HERE!!

The November issue of Compute!'s Gazette .. well I just subscribed, so I'm just getting mine. Nice to have a computer rag in the house again!

This issue reminds me of another, so long ago. The cover of Byte. Mom looks soooo mad!

It IS about time!! Go Commodore!

Amiga and Unix System 5.

Selling my souped up Commodore Amiga 500 and 1084S Monitor back in 1998 was one of my regrettable decisions in life.

For the first time today, after 27 years and some repair work, I booted up a real physical Amiga for the very first time.

Giddy giddy!!

Breaking down a Commodore Amiga 3000. Small amount of battery damage but nothing that a couple new caps and diodes can't repair.

Is a modern web browser finally coming to the Amiga?

Soon. Maybe.

Kickstart 3.1 (40.68) for the Commodore Amiga 3000

Commodore sure took some time/effort branding their chips!

Obtained an old Amiga 500 which had the trapdoor RAM and real time clock expansion card.

If you have any of these old computers with a battery .. open them up and check them out. This had electrolyte damage on RAM, sockets, caps, resistors .. and of course the battery itself.

Old Agnus in an unmodified Amiga 500.

What is or was your favourite Amiga magazine?

I subscribed to "Amiga World" but would often grab others off the newsstand or from the local computer store.

$%*&! Tr*mp and his &$#(ing ^($*@$$ stupid@$$ tariffs!

It's a battery holder. This is stupid.

To borrow from @adriansdigitalbasement.com IT FREAKIN' WORKS!

After placing/replacing 22 sockets:

U3,U4,U5,U10,U22 and either U16 or U28 ...I don't know which chip I had in which spot, they're both identical 4066s

Every single one of those bad chips caused a black screen when tested by itself.

Um. My jameco.com order arrived.

I ordered a logic chip grab back just to see what I would get.

Put together a nice little Versa64Cart pcb and wanted a case, trying this one by "havunome" on Thingiverse. Nice and open, making it easy to get to everything, including the EPROM.

In the middle of the print, I ran out of black, which made for a nice print. 😁

I don't think this is the only baddie in the bunch but so far testing shows that this IC, U31 is causing me problems -- I think 🤔.

I will say that it is the only chip on the 43 year old board with black crusty legs.

Pulled out old crummy sockets, placed in new ones .. for a start anyway. Have power .. though so far a black screen.

Ok, obviously I'm a little slow but I just bought the August issue of Compute!'s Gazette. The return of an old rag from way back then.

Not just for the Commodore, there are articles on Tandy and Atari along with old rag style articles and examples in BASIC and 6502 Assembly

I'm impressed!

The thing that I dislike most about capacitors is that they are such lazybones.
November 9, 2025 at 7:45 AM
TIL.

I hate desoldering sockets.

Saw this on Reddit today.

Yeah, they kept that promise.

For over 40 years I've NEVER noticed that my 1541 drive isn't a 1541 drive .. it's a 154I drive.

Mind blown. 🤯

I feel like the original Commodore Inc. pranked me.

A post covering the ARMSID, a replacement chip in the Commodore 64. Michele Tiberi Kaio created a musical instrument. Amazing!

I wonder if there's a left-handed version.

I have something new to play with ... I mean new OLD 😁
A 1982 C64 motherboard. Look at those capacitors! Too cool.

This is the first gold (copper?) shield I've come across .. often it is just paper.

Already notice something funky ... besides that the main ICs have been "plundered".

Looking like a SUPER ant with only 4 legs, he was actually "Zool, Ninja of the Nth Dimension" -- a fun jump-n-run first out on the Amiga.

My son would ditch his Nintendo for an opportunity to play this!
