Here to talk about movies, TV, and books.

Let's wander through the #content and enjoy ourselves.
Can’t remember an #Oscars situation like this.

There are just no prominent Emilia Perez defenders. EVERYONE who is saying anything hates this.

We’ve had disliked winners and nominees, but I can’t remember a situation like this.

Finally got to A Real Pain. Not without flaws but really good!

And somehow Kieran Culkin’s performance is maybe being a little undersold even as he rampages through awards? Which I know sounds annoying to say. But..

The more I think about #TheBrutalist AI controversy the more it just feels inevitable.

Whatever we ultimately learn about how much AI did/did not alter the end product, it feels like this film’s reputation is shot.

And this was always going to happen with one film or another.

I want to be positive about the HBO #HarryPotter stuff. It’s been 25 years, another generation can have their version, it’ll probably be fun, and a show can get into a lot.

But if this Brett Goldstein as Hagrid stuff is true, I have a hard time taking the show seriously….

I mean, hell yeah Shogun.

Hope this #GoldenGlobes dominance puts even more eyes on this kickass show.

(Whispers)

I think Vin Diesel made a pretty nice case for blockbusters as more-than-mindless-garbage even if that award is stupid

#GoldenGlobes winner Sebastian Stan will always be the ski patrol douchebag from Hot Tub Time Machine to me.

Haven’t gotten to The Substance yet, but hard not to love that #GoldenGlobes win for Demi Moore, after that speech.

I don’t know why The Bear is in comedy and I genuinely believe the latest season suffered from forced jokiness meant to keep the show in a winnable category.

With that said, Jeremy Allen White is the man and, I believe, still somehow underrated.

Random rewatch. Definitely flawed, a little on the nose, but have to say I admire the big swings and it’s a fun movie to turn your brain off and live in for a bit.

New Year plea, #FilmSky / #BookSky:

Don't consume creative content competitively.

Read a book a day if you want to. Expose yourself to as much as you want. But want it! Don't try to hit some arbitrary goal or beat someone else's.

You get less out of it if you're just in it for the numbers.

#FilmSky How do we feel about Conclave?

I'm... shocked/encouraged by its success? It's obviously very well made, but I guess I underestimated the movie-watching public's patience for cardinals walking slowly in hallways.

Chalk one up for the theory that people will come out for real, new movies!

My Holdovers rewatch was just as cozy and enjoyable as I hoped.

I know everyone likes the movie but I wonder if we shoved it into a holiday category too readily.

Great holiday watch, and will be a tradition for me. But also just one of the best movies of the 2020s.

Feels like #SquidGame 2 is trying to introduce too many characters?

Alright fine. Thinking of my favorite holiday watches as the month comes to an end.

Not all Xmas films, but all tied to the season through tradition, nostalgia, release date, or explicit Xmas-ness for me.

Here’s how I’m feeling this year.

(Not ranking movie quality. Just appeal during holidays)

The older I get the more I realize that Ferrell’s my forever comedy guy. The way parents/grandparents will insist no one was as funny as Pryor or Belushi or Murphy.

I’ll be boring my kids with best of Will Ferrell while they secretly stream bite-sized 3-second social comedy clips on their iLenses.

One thought I can't shake as we near the end of holiday movie month....

It's a matter of time before the decades-later Home Alone reboot.

Note: This is not necessarily an argument that said hypothetical reboot is a good idea. Also note: I don't care who has denied interest or how many times....

It truly is Christmas season.

“Christopher Nolan’s next film is an epic adaptation of Homer’s odyssey” is the kind of sentence you don’t even dare to dream of.

Absolutely giddy!

Why is there no demand for Oliver Platt to play Hagrid in the #HarryPotter show?

He’s only 64. Talented, likable but can play with an edge, well known but not so tied to any role or property as to be distracting. Big guy.

Most of all an underrated, outstanding actor.
