🇮🇪 Board Game Reviews| She/Her

Accidental board game reviewer, telling people about games as a way to work on her own mental health!
Morning everyone! I hope you're all keeping well

As you may have noticed I've not been online for a while and that's because I've been unwell and am putting board game reviews on hold for the time being.

So please enjoy these final two reviews from Hobby World International (Next post or two!)

A special filming selfie!

I usually take these as a reminder of the triumph of getting something filmed

I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (chronic pain & exhaustion) It explains why I take these photos - it's both physically & mentally hard to make things I enjoy. 1/?

So I got to try Raja of the Ganges: The Dice Charmers from Huch!

If you've played Raja of the Ganges then you've pretty much played this. It's a lovely implementation of one of the most vibrant worker placement games I own.

If only I could figure out those darn roads!

What's your life looking like at the moment?

Brazil: Imperial from Portal Games is a lovely looking 4x game.

You want to be Emperor of Brazil (couldn't we have a better theme?) Go explore, trade goods, and create buildings & armies to rise in power.

A tidy and quick game with nice ways to enhance your actions!

SEAL Team Flix from Wizkids is a dexterity flicking game, you are SEALS braving scary situations to save the day.

While I was disappointed to meet the IRA & tree huggers on a mission, I love the multiple female characters & cool ways to flick your guns.

Awkward but entertaining!

The plot thickens...

I know I for certain won't be backing any games with AI-generated art.
For those who haven't made it through Charlie Hall's interview with Travis Worthington on the use of generative AI illustrations in More Terraforming Mars!, here are ten takeaways from the conversation.

Did you know that the director of photography for 'Drive' also worked on one of my favourite Irish films 'Into the West'?

Taking the most lovely trip down memory lane with it 🙂

Let me tell you a story about Atiwa from Lookout Games

First, you get the fruit
Then you get the bats
Then you get the trees
Then you get the fruit
Which lets you get the bats!

This is a cool puzzle about filling your board without interfering with the lifecycle of the land. Fun!

Now the Terraforming Mars expansions are apparently using it too. One of the most popular board games and they're too cheap to even keep using stock photos. If you can't afford to pay artists, then you don't deserve art, especially not when it's created with stolen data.

Space Station Phoenix from Rio Grande Games has an interesting concept.

You use your resources to create space stations. But you start with a number of spaceships that you decide when to destroy to give you items to build newer stations.

Unusual decisions in a dated presentation!

Mosaic: A Story of Civilization from Forbidden Games is a beautiful game about (shock!) building a civilization

Pick your action to spread across the board, gather resources and learn abilities!

This is a pleasant one; and unlike similar games, it's easy to pick up and play.

So this weekend I'm going backwards in time and yet forwards because Warhammer 40k is still a distant future 😁

Dorfromantik: The Board Game from Pegasus Spiele is a cute SDJ winner

It's a cooperative tile-laying game where you're trying to connect various terrain types in specific quantities. This is simple & chill with more to unlock as you play. Hopefully, the campaign will ramp it up some!

These days, more video game adaptations are in the board game world, and Age of Wonders: Planetfall from Hobby World joins the ranks.

It's an easy-going card drafting game where you explore planets on the quest for lost technology and conquest. This should be cutthroat with a group!

Ultimate Railroads from Z-Man Games is a cool combination of Russian Railroads and all its alternative maps.

It's a game in which you can really maximise your score as you build railroads. How you use your workers and enhance your strategy is satisfying to play even if I never win!

Some things are worth leaving the house for...

Dinosaurs!

Well and Jeff Goldblum of course that goes without saying 😁

Who doesn't love a good bargain!

Have you picked up any cool board games lately?

How do you feel about buying expansions with base games? Is it overkill?

Merry Sunday morning everyone, the most quiet and pensive morning of the week I believe!

Have you anything lovely planned to round out the weekend?

It's rare I open a board game & just say WOW!

Mezen from Hobby World is a beautiful puzzle where you match symbols to create patterns. The cool part is shaping your board by clearing spaces and flipping tiles to match the challenges

Charming & easy going this one is easy to love!
