Interfaith Alliance, a leading advocate for religious freedom & civil rights, launched a powerful new nationwide advertising campaign that contrasts ICE’s brutality against immigrant families & communities with the holy season’s religious calling to “love thy neighbor.”

When I'm accused of naivety for thinking the world can change for the better, I use this very example.

I'm not old & in my lifetime, smoking went from absolutely everywhere, to "smoking sections", to the current reality.

It took education, new laws, & peer pressure. All of it - no silver bullet.
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Anyone coming from Manitoba to Vancouver after Thur, Dec 28? I’d love a cheese delivery. There’s nowhere else that makes the cheese my hometown cheese factory makes, and they make only once a year. If you know of someone travelling from MB to YVR, I’d love to be in touch. Will pay for with cheese.

There are many people posting information about evacuations on Facebook that is actually from, and only applies to, 2021. Make sure that the things you are reading and sharing relate to this event, and not the 2021 event.

Don’t forget, for many years #Uber insisted loudly that it would reduce traffic in cities. Instead, Uber drivers cruise without passengers 40% of the time. Uber and Lyft no longer claim they reduce traffic. They now admit they increase congestion.

So much for “making cities better…”

Uber and Lyft said they would ease congestion. Instead they made it worse.

Today is Canada's National Day of Action & Remembrance on Violence against Women. It marks the day in 1989 when 14 women at Polytechnique in Montreal were murdered by an "incel" (Proving that shit has a new name but is an old problem.)

There are vigils across the country today. Please attend one.

Here is what I wrote in 2020, once again exhausted at people's refusal to name the problem for what it is - misogyny.
From The Montreal Massacre To The Van Attack: Here We Are, Again - Chatelaine
We can resign ourselves to accepting the violence or we can commit to fighting like hell to ensure it never happens again.

I have absolutely nothing new to say about this day.

So, I'll just repeat what I've said before.

Here is what I wrote right after the Van Attack where I drew a through line through all this horror:

Pathetic all around.

I agree! I also find it utterly frustrating when fans (& foe!) of AI talk about how "it's evolving so quickly" as though someone pressed a button once & it's been doing its own thing ever since.

AI is not sentient or even intelligent. Human beings are pushing the technology to do more, more, more.
I don't understand why AI is considered "different". AI-generated content should be held accountable to all existing laws. The AI companies should be held accountable, too.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
