0.999... just means the sum of 9/(10^n) for all positive integers n. and this definitely converges to one. this is what infinite decimals mean

i did have someone say that a (real) number was so big that it's "nearly infinite" today though. i dislike this because i think it spreads the idea a lot of people hold unconsciously that infinity is just, like, a really really really big number

sure, in a situation like that then it makes sense to use the phrase "practically infinite" to stand for "arbitrarily large" (which is just to say that it's still finite but as big as you'd want). in terms of gameplay there is no difference between arbitrarily large and literally infinite, i guess
