Living with gratitude. Non-theist. Standing against bigotry, embracing empathy. Navigating life with pancreatic cancer—can't control what happens, but I can choose how to respond.

Women artists forgotten by art history
For centuries, art history has celebrated names like Michelangelo, Picasso, and Monet. Yet, behind these iconic figures, incredibly talented women have often been overlooked or wrongly attributed to m...

Researchers discovered a protein that determines how pancreatic cancer cells metastasize to different organs! More studies are imperative, HOWEVER, federal funding for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program was significantly impacted by the Trump administration's budget cuts. 🤬

Gen Xers coming of age in the 80s were inundated with messaging like this Enjoli ad - the empowered woman who could 'do it all': work & bring home the money, be a dutiful mother, cook and clean and be a seductive sex object for her man. The expectations for women were bonkers.

Sunshine, bluebonnets, and my shepsky Tsavo. These are a few of my favorite things.

Just finished 'The Goldfinch' by #DonnaTartt on my path to read all books by women authors of the Pulitzer Prize. What an incredible gift she has for narrative literary fiction! Have y'all read it #booksky? Anything else of hers?

This could be a gamechanger, like a mammogram, but for #pancreaticcancer!

Like iconic video game gobbler Pac-Man chows down on ghosts, specialized pancreatic cancer proteins munch through tissue. A new test could detect them in the early stages of disease.

A pancreatic cancer blood test called PAC-MANN could spot the disease early
The test relies on a magnetic nanoparticle linked to fluorescent molecules to detect pancreatic cancer proteins.

This year, I’d like to read each of the 33 Pulitzer Prize winning novels authored by women since the prize was first awarded in 1918. Some will be re-reads. I think I'll start with Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence.

It's been one year since my pancreatic cancer diagnosis. I've since had a Whipple and lots of chemo. This vaccine could potentially reduce recurrence - a beacon of light and hope for a devastating disease. #science #PancreaticCancer

Masterpiece. Just re-read after 20 years & it's every bit as powerful and fierce as I remembered. The characters, narrative, and details of daily life are so rich, all while illuminating the revolting legacy of white colonialism in the Congo.
Barbara Kingsolver is an incredible storyteller. 📚💙

Looks like a fun read
I've written a book diving into the newspaper archives to look at arguments we can't stop repeating (Nobody Wants to Work Anymore! Kids Today Are Terrible!), things we can't stop blaming (jazz! bicycles! flappers!) & more (Cronk!)!
