Trying a different type of over written serious post.
People truly misunderstand that the purpose of education is to look outside of one’s self and learn about the world around them. Jesus spoke and worked in parables because stories allow people to place themselves in situations through empathy and better look at the actions they take and how those affect others in a safer environment to process the actual idea. This misses a certain percentage of humans no matter what anyone does. Rules are part of the understanding but so are how they affect people in real life. It is what great fiction does which is invite you to gain a better understanding of the things you interact with on a daily basis and chance if necessary. This is what Joyce Carol Oates gets at so beautifully, evocatively, and ultimately effectively. That is why you need excellence even if it doesn’t raise metrics. It elevates the world around it through how humans beings interact with each other.
