![The municipality of Vieques, Puerto Rico was subjected to decades of U.S. Navy "practice" shelling that resulted in the death of David Sanes Rodríguez and the highest rates of cancer in the archipelago. People in Puerto Rico and in the diaspora coordinated a long civil disobedience campaign that forced the U.S. to close Navy operations in Vieques.
@cpipr reports on how renewed U.S. military activity in Puerto Rico is stirring up trauma among Viequenses and other Puerto Ricans, and on the colonial attitudes towards the bodies of Puerto Rican women - e.g. US military men inquring about sex work.

Pero aquí no volverán a bombardear jamás, pa' que sepas", sentencia el pescador de pulpo.
El retorno de la presencia militar a unas 14 millas náuticas de aquí, en la Antigua Base Naval Roosevelt Roads de Ceiba, ha revivido los traumas en la Isla Nena.
