This whole situation just makes me sick. What is wrong with these people? I kept noticing that the only objection most of them had with the bill was that it would add to the deficit. I mean, c'mon.

Pick any case over the last century & a half where democracy crumbled into some form of autocracy. Chances are, the center-right played a crucial facilitating role, and the way they justified it is always, always through reference to some looming (largely fantastical) threat from the left.
