145. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, rewatch)

Not really much I can say about this. It's Nightmare Before Christmas. Everyone's seen it, and if you haven't, well... go watch it I guess.

Will say though, this is definitely more of a Christmas movie than a Halloween one.

144. Smiling Friends Season 3 (2025)

In spite of the premiere being a bit weak, this was an absolutely hilarious season. It features some of the most demented moments of the show by far and I wouldn't have it any other way. I cannot wait to see what season 4 has in store.

143. Initial D First Stage (1998)

Finished this on Sunday with the guys. The races are equal parts engaging and ridiculous and I also enjoyed the vibe of the slower looks into the characters' daily lives. Not perfect, but still quite good and I'm sure the sequels improve on it.

142. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987, rewatch)

I think I get why there's only one (good) Thanksgiving movie-- because everyone knows that there's no way they can beat this one.

Quite possibly one of the best road trip comedies ever. They don't make them like they used to.

141. Sin and Punishment (2000, replay)

Played this for the 25th anniversary and holy SHIT this game is so fucking good with a mouse injector. I genuinely don't think I can go back to the NSO version.

Anyway, this was great a year ago and it's still great now. Play it ASAP.

140. Resident Evil (1996) (Jill Route)

Forgot to add this but I beat this a couple of days ago in a few (albeit distant) sittings. Few frustrating bits aside, this was a really good time. Totally understand why this kicked off a franchise.

Gonna have to play Chris' route soon.

139. Brave Exkaiser (1990)

This is a show that knows exactly what it is-- a kid's super robot anime. That being said, it's because of its sincerity and simplicity that it manages to be a cozy, entertaining watch. It's not deep, but it's fun, and that's all it really needs to be.

138. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (2025)

As a relative newbie to Chainsaw Man, this was a great time. Despite not having read the corresponding arc, this captured the style and tone I had come to expect from the manga and Fujimoto's love of film beautifully.

Check it out.

137. The Man of Steel (1986)

This miniseries isn't really one ongoing story so much as it is setup for Superman's status quo post-COIE. Art and dialogue's great, but I don't like how Byrne does exposition and I'm split on the ending. Hopefully the ongoing addresses these issues.

135. Hellsing Ultimate (2006-2012)

Nosferatu, the No-Life King. All that remains is a pale shadow, wandering from battle to battle. I have come to believe that those frightening immortals are, in fact, frail, sobbing children.

134. Train to Busan (2016)

My friend described this as basically the closest we'll ever get to a Left 4 Dead movie, and yeah, I can see it. Probably a hell of a lot more emotional, but that's far from a bad thing. Totally get why so many people love this one.

Check it out.

133. Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Watched this with some friends because I thought it was a horror movie and while it wasn't at all what I expected it's still really good. I heard someone describe it as "Del Toro does Coraline" and I think that sums it up perfectly.

Go watch it.

132. Cure (1997)

This movie gets a lot of praise and I can see why. A visual marvel that, in spite of lacking in any of the supernatural elements in most J-horror movies, manages to be just as if not more tense.

I think I missed a lot, but that's what a rewatch is for.

131. Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)

I hate to admit this, but I don't understand this situation at all.

130. Xiaolin Showdown Season 3 (2005)

This feels like it's one step forward, two steps back from Season 2. The action is improved and Rai's focus episodes are great, but it's offset by Omi's behavior and a pretty lame villain.

It's alright, but I'm real glad they ended it here.

129. Heavy Metal (1981)

A really fun anthology movie with great animation courtesy of Disney alumni deciding they wanted to make something for adults for a chance, accompanied by great music and a surprisingly stacked voice cast.

Go check it out when you have the chance.

128. Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)

This was my first Herzog film and MAN did I pick a good one. Beautiful cinematography, haunting atmosphere and a narrative mixing some of the best parts of both the silent film and the Dracula novel. Ending's bleak but everything else is great.

127. Galaxy Cyclone Braiger (1981)

While not without some bumps in animation and a small handful of lackluster episodes, this is still a really solid show with some great protagonists that I like to consider the missing link between Lupin the 3rd and Cowboy Bebop.

Check it out.

126. You're Under Arrest (1994)

Forgot to add this on Sunday. This is a really fun four-episode OVA with some loveable characters and shockingly great animation by Deen of all studios. Wish there was a bit more but I guess that's what the TV anime and manga's for.
