Actually insane how you can tell that they cut out like half of the movie and yet it still ended up being as cohesive as it is.

This shit is like the Xenogears of holiday movies and I mean that in the best way possible.
142. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987, rewatch)

I think I get why there's only one (good) Thanksgiving movie-- because everyone knows that there's no way they can beat this one.

Quite possibly one of the best road trip comedies ever. They don't make them like they used to.

For the record, I read the first 38 chapters of this to prepare for this, though had not seen the anime, and the move between mediums was almost seamless. I'll still probably read the corresponding chapters (and the rest of Part 1 as a whole) soon enough, though.
138. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (2025)

As a relative newbie to Chainsaw Man, this was a great time. Despite not having read the corresponding arc, this captured the style and tone I had come to expect from the manga and Fujimoto's love of film beautifully.

Check it out.

Whatever the hell I watched, it was a one-of-a-kind experience that both thoroughly entertained and deeply disturbed me. I'll probably be thinking about that ending and its implications for the rest of the year.

Thank you, David Lynch. May you rest in peace.
131. Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)

I hate to admit this, but I don't understand this situation at all.

While we were watching the movie, my buddy @kylehydescorner.bsky.social told me a bunch of the crazy shit that the actor who plays Count Dracula did. I immediately knew that I had to make this.

I'm really, really, really glad I decided to watch this AFTER War of the Worlds and not before it
110. Shin Godzilla (2016/2025 theatrical release, rewatch)

While it takes a second to get going this is still a really good movie with fantastic visual direction that, in spite of its critique of Japanese bureaucracy, remains optimistic about mankind's future.

Go watch it.

Forgot to post this here yesterday. While it's not as much as Broly, there's an insane amount of memes that come from this movie that I didn't even realize, to say nothing of how much footage was used here.

Also, Turles is one of the coolest movie villains and no one can convince me otherwise.
100. Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might (1990, rewatch)

It's actually insane how much meme culture owes to this.

Anyway, really fun movie in its own right, go watch it.

I can't call this a perfect movie. The pacing and special effects, while serviceable, are a bit rough, mostly at the start. But in spite of that, this is still a fun, sincere movie that shows a fantastic understanding of what makes Superman and his world so great.

Check it out.
97. Superman (2025)

Maybe kindness is the new punk rock.

In spite of some undeniably stunning art direction and cool ideas, New Dunbine is dragged down hard by its shoddy mecha animation, its seizure-inducing finale, and most importantly, just how damn uneventful it is. I hated this 7 years ago and I probably hate it even more now.
81. New Story of Aura Battler Dunbine (1988, rewatch)

Fuck you

Made one of those SRW bingo things. This is a mix of stuff I want and stuff I expect. I also tried to make it so that most of the returning series could tie in with at least one of the already-revealed series. Guess we'll see how right or wrong I am in a few hours.

Rewatching this I feel like I was a bit too harsh on it. It's not great or anything and the plot's super rushed but it's still a fun time and I genuinely do like all the Napoleon Dynamite-lite scenes. If I were a kid I'd probably love this.
55. A Minecraft Movie (2025)

This is a movie that is simultaneously a worse Napoleon Dynamite, a worse Jumanji, and yet also somehow features both a scene where a child recreates 9/11 AND one where Jack Black and Jason Momoa 69 midair.

Make of that what you will, I guess?

Watched episode 45 yesterday, same general reaction

If I wasn't sure that this show inspired [[REDACTED]]'s death in the third episode of Nadesico, I'm certain now.
Just finished Dougram episode 17

And here my Twin Peaks journey comes to a brief close. For the record, yes, I WILL be getting around to watching The Return, but it won't be until September, both to match up the dates in-show and as a way of representing that 25-year gap between seasons. Though burnout's also a factor, of course.
46. Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces (2014)

A collection of deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me that both captures some of that levity from the TV series and explains some more unclear elements from the movie. I'd even go so far to say it's a must-watch for any Twin Peaks fan.

For the record, this doesn't include the New Dream Hunter Rem OVA duology from the 90s. Due to the gap of a couple of years, the difference in numbering, and the fact that each episode is already around an hour long, I'm gonna be watching it and counting it separately later on, presumably this year.
33. Dream Hunter Rem (1985)

Great anthology OVA series with some gorgeous visual direction and some really fun characters. The plot goes insane and can be kinda hard to follow, but that adds a lot to the dream-like feel the series is going for.

Check it out if you can find it.

So in the second episode of Dougram (chronologically the first), the protagonist ditches his rich family to hang out with stragglers from the colony... who then get confronted by some Earthlings in white hoods who tell them to go home.

First impression of Takahashi is that he's not exactly subtle.

NOW STARTING:

I remember watching this back in the day after hearing for a while that it was Zeek/imperial Japan apologist propaganda and while that was almost definitely the case in the novel given its author, I can't see any of this even on a rewatch. I guess Sunrise hated Fukui even before Narrative bombed?
27. Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 (2010/2016 recut, rewatch?)

While not without its flaws, six years later I still think this is a good show with beautiful visuals that serves as an idealistic, if over-the-top at times, coda to early UC.

Just watch the OVA over the TV cut.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention this one was a rewatch. Go check it out. Bean Bandit is literally me and I can't wait to do all this but real when I visit the midwest in April.

Oh right, I have an account on this site, don't I?

I'm gonna try to see how I like this site but for the most part go between here and Twitter. I didn't really do much except update the media thread anyway so I don't think things will be THAT different, but hey, you never know.
