ED doc retired after the worst of Covid, professionally dormant-ish and mostly healed, in UC while considering the next step in work evolution…

Thursday morning challenge…keeping a straight face while the 40ish yo partner of my sick patient chimes in with “most cancer is caused by parasites” in that all-knowing voice brought to us by 2025 social media 🤮

serenity now…or at least for 15 min in the early hours before I learn what politically driven medical fuckery has gone overnight

will there eventually be no docs left who remember that hand-foot-mouth does NOT usually move through the teenagers/parents in the family of a infected kindergarten kid? Lesions in these unusually older patients are at max - sixth case in the last week. Covid has truly changed immunity in general

In the circle of people I’ll see face-to-face today, I might be the only person who ever took a government class? The president has attacked a sovereign nation without congressional involvement. I clearly recall that this is essentially a crime yet I’m alone in my distress. This is a surreal time.

help me... 17 yo patient just declined a rapid Covid swab " for religious reasons" FFS?? We had a gentle discussion but where on EARTH are we generally going from here?? Cluck you RFK/MAHA from all of us who lived the actual nightmare, not this farce you are telling patients about now

and...there it is - refusal of tetanus for a 6 yo with a dirty lac sustained outside because "we don't believe in vaccines". Yes, I tried. Calmly even. FFS

Is ANYONE ELSE fricking screaming internally while having to interact normally with 70+ patients cuz US health and government are burning down?!?! Not a word uttered by patients or staff in a 12 hr day?! Absolutely SURREAL FFS

I’m at work so I can’t watch these RFK hearings but is the AMA present there? Is there any official position coming from them? Otherwise they’ve seen my last dollar. I only joined during Covid thinking they were going to help us with PPE in the ED and that didn’t really happen.

I just gotta ask… Is the AMA saying ANYTHING about RFK? Do we have an official position at all?

Can anyone speak to the ongoing US experience with ensitrelvir– i.e. clinical trials in San Francisco?

It’s still fucking amazing to me that no one seems to remember they didn’t all used to “get sick at the holidays” or get “sick after every time I fly”
The continued collective amnesia is stunning

I’d like to be in the know re minute to minute H5N1 info all aspects – retired from EM now part-time UC so if it goes large scale, I’ll be seeing it. Is there an H5N1 starter pack? Or anyone studying it please comment so I can follow? TIA

Rough sleep overnight after yesterday’s blow by blow political announcements. It’s a nightmare list for US healthcare 2025. Covid PTSD and bad dreams came roaring back. What a five star flying monkey shit show

I was a tech dumb Twitter newbie in 2020 and new again here - any easy way to find my ED docs, Covid researchers and virologists? If you are one of them lmk!?

have been perusing here and yes, it’s so much better, but hate to deactivate my Twitter acct cuz so much of my Covid work history is stored there. The struggles of the Delta surge… feels wrong to lose documentation of all the pain. When you forget pain, you’re at risk of repeating history…
