It seems like a very strange thing to do. NVDA captures most upside in most scenarios, OAI is exposed to the most downside

But then, I'm not softbank

But then again, maybe that's for the best

I saw this guy was playing eu5 on YouTube, too; probably a gas leak symptom
November 11, 2025 at 9:03 PM
*only knows about it from the memes & is probably misrepresenting the firm's financial acumen voice*

I think it's also kinda funny to hold up SoftBank as some kind of wise & foresightful bellwether of future financial performance, too

Less believable than someone finding a pistol in Britain? 😅
November 11, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Yeah, I agree it was a little bit of a disappointing finish, but the rest was so good I can't be too mad

Re: Jonathan Strange, I sorta started it out of feeling dutiful to my then girlfriend, then kinda fell off, & then never really read the rest
I loved it, mostly for the quality of the writing

Oddly I never could get into her other book, Johnathan Strange & Mr Norell, even though I have that one in fine paperback, which my ex bought for me

The quality of the voice has gotten into my head though, I'm starting to talk like Piranesi lol

Wovon man nicht bisken kann, darüber muss man schweigen
November 11, 2025 at 8:20 PM
1 bluesky is everything that is the case

1.1 bluesky is the totality of bisks, not tweets

1.11 bluesky is determined by the bisks, & by their being all the bisks

1.12 for the totality of bisks determines both what is the case & what is not the case

1.13 the bisks in profile space are the account

As someone who has in fact read the Uniform Data Systems 2025 Manual for Health Center Data Reporting Requirements, I can reliably inform you that you're not missing anything all that special

But the idea is using it as a vehicle for a Welsh epic is kind of very funny to me for some reason
November 11, 2025 at 7:55 PM
"Inspired by works like the Mabinogion & the Canterbury Tales, this ambitious experimental novel is written in the style of the Uniform Data Systems 2025 Manual for Health Center Data Reporting Requirements"
November 11, 2025 at 7:46 PM
This sounds really cool & then they hit you with "in the style of the tractatus" which is an intimidating & bizarre statement that arguably should never be uttered

I think I might have to check it out
November 11, 2025 at 7:43 PM
The @ctrlcreep.bsky.social twitter account had some really cool stories, one that reminded me of Piranesi (well, the other way around because of the order I read them in) was called something like "the air broken library"

though I can't find it now after looking for idk maybe 3 minutes
November 11, 2025 at 7:41 PM
If you know any other works in that sort of genre that you liked, I'd love to learn of them, I'm also a big fan of the liminal & surreal
November 11, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Yeah!

The prose style is really very different from Borges (though both are outstanding in their own way), but the setting feels *incredibly* Borges

Like Clarke thought, "what if the library of babel was real?"

back in the day, for me, it was 007 Nightfire

I wonder how well it's held up? Honestly, no idea...
November 11, 2025 at 7:11 PM
I will try that sometime soon then
November 11, 2025 at 6:35 PM
We called him "ubby-nubby-scrubby-rubby" after the sounds he would make
November 11, 2025 at 6:15 PM
"Semi-hemi-demi-semi" reminds me of a dog that lived down the street from me a couple decades back, when I was a little kid

He was a pug who would bark at all comers, with a barking voice that not even Gilbert Gotfried would envy; it always sounded like some kind of confused rant
November 11, 2025 at 6:15 PM
Totally agree
November 11, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Relationship dramas are such a tired thing on microblogs, everyone shadow boxes with the least favored exes or their unrequited loves resulting in a lot of annoying noise that serves only to diminish my view of human companionship in general
November 11, 2025 at 5:56 PM
I wanted to hurry up & finish it but I also didn't want it to end haha
November 11, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Yeah, I agree that the ending was weaker than the rest, the setting is by far the protagonist & I felt like it was diminished, somewhat, as we learn about how it relates to the outer world

Even so, it was still enjoyable in those parts, even if not as gripping as it was in the beginning & middle
November 11, 2025 at 5:44 PM
💯

I was amazed at how well it pulled off the story it was telling

If the style wasn't so compelling you could almost say, "very little happens, it's boring"

But I was glued to every page
November 11, 2025 at 5:41 PM
I meant to say "the marble, the sea & the stairs" but the holes in my brain mean that words fall out

Oh well close enough
November 11, 2025 at 5:37 PM
That's a great picture

I struggled for a long time just how to picture the house, I guess that that is more ornate than what I had in mind. But the interaction with the marble & the stairs is really perfect
