I’m a geologist and creator of things.
Several years ago while working in Madagascar I came across these small floating plants. I sketched them and the Malagasy name was Ramilamina. When I got back home I learned the English name is Azolla and are actually ferns. They fix nitrogen, can double in mass in two days, and caused an ice age.

Here is one with a ripe sporangia that I came across in Wisconsin earlier this year.

Working on the geologic timeline project and adding these Osmunda. A fern genus that evolved in the early Cretaceous and are still around today. Model was created by the Prehistoric Fauna mod team.

Picture somewhat related to video coming out soon. I can’t wait so I can play and not feel guilty for not editing.

I visited the Burpee Museum of Natural History and found a piece of me.

Very conveniently, Grand Teton's prominence fits perfectly into the max custom dimension build limit at 1:1 scale. I'm working on a video that was going to be quick but it seems I may be incapable of that. Its coming along and will be out soonish though.

I worked in Australian Neoproterozoic (1000-541 Mya) rocks for the month of July. But never really got into the Ediacaran formation, famous for early life. We did hike into rocks of that age one day and found two pieces of float with worm traces on ripple beds. Uncle Toby’s for scale.

These bell flowers are one of my new favorites. Such a nice purple color and the unopened buds have this great pentagonal shape. (Also I’m back from Australia and working on new episodes)

The last of the Gneiss Boxes sold quickly after the diamond and coal episode came out and I shipped the last of them out today! Thank you so much for everyone that bought one and I hope you enjoyed the loot. I rounded up the $2677 in profit to $3k and made the donation The Nature Conservancy today.

You always think of orchids being tropical plants and then you come across some pink lady slipper orchids on the side of a trail in the middle of Wisconsin. (Cypripedium acaule)

Did some bog hiking in the middle of Wisconsin. Was really pleased to see some pitcher plants in bloom and some little sundews along the path. #bogwalker

Radiolarians are another micro organism that produces opal skeletons. A rock with a high amount could be called radiolite. Radiolarian shapes are commonly used in sci-fi.

Went on a quick road trip to get some footage for an upcoming episode and stopped at Ableman’s Gorge near Baraboo WI. I was always impressed by these 1.7 billion year old ripples preserved in quartzite that are now a vertical wall. They were one of my early exposures to geology and deep time.

Troubleshooting an issue with our isotope ratio mass spec today. It’s always fun to see things that look like science fiction when you are doing science fact.

My youngest daughter really takes after me.

My new office light switch. It was made by the Wurdack Electrical Manufacturing Company and rated for 250V and 60 A. It only has 12V on it now to close a relay for the office light. I’m not sure how old it actually is, if anyone has an idea, let me know. #knifeswitch #normallightswitches

Look at what arrived in the mail today! I’m not really sure what I expected when I started doing this stuff but it’s all been incredibly enjoyable. I have plans for a lot more things in the future and I appreciate everyone that has watched and supported me over the last few years.

I spent new years day grinding out this build in my survival world. I am normally stuck in cool palettes when I build and I wanted to try something warmer. I'm happy with the results and its now the new house for the town clerics.

Finished up the last display for the iron ore episode. Time to start recording! #minecraft #geology

I’m working on an iron ore episode and I cut a cube from a 2.7 billion year old banded iron formation. It’s my new favorite thing and barely left my hand since I cut it. #minecraft #geology #bif
