No, not yet. Appropriations process for agencies like IMLS is completely separate from big murder bill that just passed.

For IMLS specifically, we'd learn more during the week of July 21 for the House's proposed LHHSE appropriations (which sets IMLS budget)

Oh, this is interesting: somebody found that one of the imaginary titles on the "AI"-generated summer reading list had a Google snippet that cited (and obviously mangled) a library catalog.

If libraries share metadata with you at scale, least you can do is get it right, Google.
"Notably, the list of books shows some of the ouroboros of AI-generated content. Allende’s Tidewater Dreams definitely does not exist, but Google’s AI snippets says that it does, and attributes this to... the Jefferson County Library, which does not list this “book” anywhere."
I spoke to the person who AI-generated the Chicago Sun-Times reading list. Says he's very embarrassed. This was part of a generic package inserted into newspapers and other publications, so likely to run elsewhere. He didn't know it'd be in Chicago Sun-Times

I have a colleague (not on social media) who likes to say that works don't *fall* into the public domain, they *ascend* into the public domain. I really love that.

I’ve unfortunately needed to add more material to my post from yesterday. The re-election of Donald Trump is looking like the biggest act of American self-destruction since the Civil War.

Same link, new title and some updates.

One consequence of the current crop of book-banners are a lot of batch updates to deactivate library cards for minors. This (at the moment) mostly affects Missouri public libraries due to new rules around parental consent.

However, I can imagine it getting worse for library software:
