If you look at old Dragon magazine letter columns and forums people have been debating the value of "crunch" for decades. That debate has for the most part been about "play styles", and people on either side of the divide treated complexity as a playstyle preference.

I don’t know if it’s just me taking final form as old guy but there does seem to be a trend to make things as easy as possible at the expense of everything else.

One thing I'm learning today is that all of the letters characters find with incriminating evidence about the bad guys and their secret plans and organizations is apparently completely plausable, including signing them and using plain language! Who knew?!

The fact that governments are moving quickly to ban VPNs and haven't done anything worthwhile to protect you from data collection should tell you everything you need to know about where their loyalties truly lie.
It's not for anyone's safety, kids or otherwise.
It's for profit and surveillance.
