anyway i think most of the stupid generalizations about fandom (from both inside of it and out) come from treating it like it's supposed to be activism or a stepping stone to a professional creative career, instead of what it is, namely a fucking hobby

fandom is a social hobby that's no more righteous or depraved than fantasy football or multiplayer gaming. the fact that corporations are trying to crudely dangle the AI hook and some people bite is no more an indictment of fandom than it is of literally any other space where corporations do this

the literary canon is the stuff that survives. it is not a representative sample of everything that was published in a given time period

like i'm sorry that you got fooled by the carefully curated literature selections you were exposed to in school, but a huge swath of published literature is shallow popcorn designed to appeal to the masses, and this is not new
