I recently read Summer in Orcus by T.Kingfisher. She has become my comfort author and this book was a delight! It is very sweet and full of whimsy. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you need a light and heartwarming palate cleanser.

Finished listening to the Adventures in the Louvre audiobook yesterday. It was interesting and informative but still a light and easy read. The narrator was engaging as well. My favourite parts were about the museum itself, particularly the section that covered restitution. I recommend it!

I haven't been on here for a little while but I return with a late June wrap-up. June was a short book kind of month. Safekeep might be one of my top books for the year - I recommend it!

What It Means When A Man Falls From The Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah is one of the best short story collections I've read. All of the stories center around difficult relationships, mostly daughter/mother or sisters. It really captures those dynamics and emotions well. Highly recommend!

Recently read Dead-End Memories by Banana Yoshimoto. I really enjoy Yoshimoto's writing as it elicits beautiful imagery but unfortunately this one was a little disappointing. Three out of the five stories were forgettable but I did like the other two.

I was craving something strange and Weasels in the Attic by Hiroko Oyamada really fulfilled that need. A really weird and unnerving novella. This is definitely not for everyone lol

Read A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende this week. I enjoyed the story and writing but I found myself just not that emotionally attached to the characters. I think because the story takes place over such a long period, I didn't get as much time in each 'era' as I would have liked.

Finished We Could Be Rats by Emily Austin this week. I knew from the first line that this was going to be great. It had a really interesting format and I found it relatable, funny and sad. I would recommend it to other lefties who were depressed in their youth (or still are) 😅

Recently finished The Healing Season of Pottery by Yeon Somin. I might be biased because it has both pottery and cats but I thought it was great. I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a slow-paced, hopeful book about healing and moving on to the next step in life.

Finished The Vegetarian by Han Kang last night. Dark & unsettling. Still putting my thoughts together over this one but my initial rating is 4.5⭐
I look forward to reading her other work.

Finished my first book of March and it was a good way to start the month. Relatable, funny and crushingly sad. I think this book does a good job of conveying how anxiety feels. I thought the ending was a little weak but overall I still think this is a great book and would recommend it! 4.5⭐

I finished Monstilio in February. I really enjoyed this! There are a lot of layers to the central themes of this story and I found the ending satisfying. My favourite section/perspective was M's. It may not be for everyone but it was a 5 ⭐ read for me.
I also love this book cover so much

I finished listening to the audiobook of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Oh my goodness, it was so great! I definitely see why it's always recommended as an audiobook. I can't say much without spoiling it but I loved it and also highly recommend it! 5⭐

Finished The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez earlier this week. Whilst I liked and resonated with some parts, a lot of it just came across as the author's thoughts and not the character's. That may have been the point but it just felt a little too much like a blog post for me. 3⭐

I finally got around to finishing Invisible Kitties by Yu Yoyo this week. It captures the essence of cats in a fun abstract way. Each 'chapter' is only 3~ pages long so I mostly read a few chapters before reading something else. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but still an enjoyable read
