Food. Occasionally other stuff. US-born, TW-based.
Chicken marsala (the whole bottle and 3 kinds of mushrooms) on orchiette because that's how I first fell in love with it at NYAJoe's. With green beans.

Been slowly using up this massive pack of red curry paste I have to make quick convenience meals: boil with coconut milk, water, and a bunch of veggies. Adjust with sugar, lime, fish sauce. Noodles have been glass or also yuba cut into strips. Herbs. It takes like 15 mins and tastes great.

About to embark on a gruelling 7-day journey to the highest peak (Margherita) of the highest mountain range (Rwenzoris) in Africa. Feeling... MUCH trepidation. Luke is fine.

Love.

Coconut curried yellow dal. Green beans, carrot, red pepper, cilantro, toasted almond, black rice. Looks like its going to be another decade before I can post photos; my phone keeps crashing when I try. No matter, they never come out good anyway!

Trying my first photo, though they never come out good. Don't care-- I love my food. This is a Persian-style soup: dried Persian lime, chickpea, basmati, shredded chicken, turmeric, herbs. I added cauliflower because... I love veggies.

Pizza w/maitake, caramelized onion, spinach, and blue cheese. Didn't taste great when I had an upset stomach from lingering food poisoning, but heavenly the next day when I felt much better, hungry, and was too tired to cook! Funny how that works...

Dangit, the first post with first ever photo didn't come through. Homemade rye and thousand island. Locally made pastrami and kraut. Imported swiss and butter. Take My Breath Away on the speakers. (It's confirmed that romantic tunes are the only way to eat a good sandwich in Taiwan.)

We need to salute courage wherever it appears.

The official snow reporter at Vermont's Sugarbush, where JD Vance came on a skiing vacation this weekend, pointed out in her snow report this a.m. that the Trump team is ignoring climate change.

Her report was pulled down

A rushed seafood paella for friends last night meant no proper socarrat, sadly. Still, good flavor from homemade seafood stock and good smoked and sweet paprika. This + FOUR bunches of quick-broiled asparagus devoured quickly and entirely by just 5 mouths. Dessert: chocolate w/mango+szechuan pepper.

Cheese arepas w/black bean salad and coriander and paprika roast kohlrabi. Would have been better if the areparina wasn't starting to go rancid, but I really didn't want to waste it. Need to focus on Latin American cuisines for a while! Might be mole time soon...

Seared halloumi and broccolini on a salad of wheat berries, sundried tomato, olive, spinach, pine nuts, red onion, and oregano.

LNY potluck last night. You know you're in good company when "controversial" veggies are on the table: kale & broccoli in lemon, an unapologetic mushroom dish, TWO brussel sprout dishes... flavors of Mexico, Syria, India... a comforting potato leek soup... several cheeses... lots of love. 恭喜發財 🎉

Though I don't tolerate caffeine well, not even this chilly northern Taiwan weather can keep me from chopping up a crunchy, juicy, acidic, salty, umami Burmese tea salad.

I am curious to hear what I'll call a "North-South-East-West" sample of friend's music collections. For example: I've got Mastodon, Queen Latifah, Supertramp, and Elliot Smith. Or.... Fugazi, Joni Mitchell, Lil Nas X, and Sneaker Pimps. Tori Amos, N.E.R.D., Leftover Crack, and Rush. Make sense? 換你!

Shiitake and hon shimeiji mushroom risotto finished with a porcini-tofu "cream," garnished with 3 more kinds of roast mushroom, broiled asparagus, and pine nuts. Vegan and majorly umami. Leftovers brought to new life with a poached egg.

Inspired by Italian wedding soup, but with spicy Italian sausage instead of adorable mini meatballs and much more veg. Homemade rye bread on the side for these chilly tropical winter days.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley had been hoping to see Biden use his pardon power during his final weeks in office, but she had a different way in mind. She's pushing him for even more sweeping action to grant clemency to those she feels are being unreasonably punished by the criminal justice system:
Rep. Ayanna Pressley is calling on Biden for more sweeping pardon action
While some members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation have criticized Biden's pardon of his son Hunter, Pressley is focusing on pressuring the president for pardons of a different kind.

Pig's feet and black eyed peas in the pressure cooker. Onion, celery, bell pepper, broccoli greens, tomato, garlic, white pepper, bay, and chili. A favorite simple comfort to endure this bout of depression.
