Global Sanctuary for Elephants
@globalelephants.org
US based 501c3 that exists to help create sanctuaries for captive elephants. Our pilot project is Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. 2,800 acres of beautiful land to provide elephants with the space and freedom needed to recover from a lifetime of captivity.
Elephant conservation belongs in the wild. Captive populations can never be released, and they are not intended for release. As it is currently, the US zoo elephant population is unsustainable and must be replenished via import from the wild.

It’s a whole different world for Kenya, but she’s certainly taken to it.

it must have felt like to Kenya when she slept her first nights at sanctuary, finally free from big city noises. Now, she gets to fall asleep to the sounds of the wind in the trees, the bugs chirping, and the bats flying overhead.

enjoying their time at sanctuary. Everyone has slightly different ways of finding and expressing joy, too – Maia enjoys her naps in the mud wallows, Guille has fun exploring and hunting for snacks, and Bambi rumbles excitedly with the comfort of her friends.

This video was taken by one of Pupy and Kenya’s caregivers on the evening we buried Pupy. The sunset made us think of Pupy and of all the hope she brought to the world. She gave Kenya a gift she’ll never forget and was given acceptance and respect in return.

you can look west and see the sunset. There’s a giant fig tree that’s protected from the elephants, so they can’t knock it down, and it’s really quite lovely. Lots of wild animals pass through, particularly tapirs, so the land gets lots of use.
