New Hart's Rules is no help, by the way. Oxford style sucks and is far inferior to the Chicago Manual of Style, but we don't have a good alternative for British English so I always end up defaulting to it for clients without their own style guide even though there are so many cases it doesn't cover.

This is evil and also cherrypicked data. It’s just one year: in 2023, applications in the UK fell while rising in the EU (after rising in both from 2020). Of course some of that larger cohort will take longer to get across the continent. That’s not a trend or the UK being put upon, that’s geography.

Yeah—I understand viscerally that pictures of actors are edited, but I forgot that not only can *anyone* do it now, nearly everyone does to some extent? Using a colour filter feels normal; I think using a makeup filter could feel normal very quickly. It feels incremental, but these are huge changes.
