Actually, thinking about this, The Steam Machine is the perfect excuse to stop using Windows. I think I'll have to get it when it's available and I have enough money.

The issue is that for people who like physical games, this is not a physical game. The key card does not have any content on it.
That's why people don't like them. It removes the option to physically own the game, which means you do not actually own the game at all.
