I gave my presentation on propaganda stickers at the Scandinavian Study conference. Lots of interest in the theme, and a fun topic to delve into. I would love to find some way to expand on this topic, maybe toward an eventual book project.

Happy to have been invited to attend the Twin Cities Estonian Independence Day celebration today. I was an invited speaker last year, but great to continue the connections. Elagu Eestimaa! 🇪🇪

I love the new Keith Haring stamps! I wonder how many will see this as a celebration of queer history and cultural influence?

In unrelated musings… I went through some travel photos and was inspired by this image from one of my Rhine River trips. Today seems to be an appropriate day to share.

I’m going a day early since classes start tomorrow, but taking down the Christmas decorations today. St. Knut’s Day (the 20th day of Christmas) is my traditional end-date for the season. #UtMedKnut

As I think back on 2024, getting back to Estonia for a week-long visit, and Ormsö/Vormsi, is absolutely at the top. This, despite my fainting and cutting my forehead open. Getting to meet fellow scholars and just enjoy some Estonian culture was so rejuvenating and inspiring.

Last winter didn’t give me many possibilities to try out my small electric snow blower. But it worked today!
We hire someone to plow the driveway, so this is just for our walks.

A week late, but I am finally getting my Christmas tree up and decorated. As usually, Mark deferred to me, saying I do a much better job…

Came across this column by Aaron Hughey, and it really encapsulates how I feel about the election result. My profound disappointment in what this country has become.

We keep hearing messages from the college administration of the need to be fiscally responsible and trim budgets, and of positions being cut. And then we see new projects going up that seem totally unnecessary. Can’t help but wonder how much better those funds could have been spent…
