Sometime around 2019 a recruiter sent me a job specification where one of the benefits listed was "desk plant to keep the vibe fresh".

I don't know why but this has been stuck in my head rent-free ever since.

Glad this place has become a bit more active again.

Cancelled my X Premium a few months back and have recently been considering deleting my account entirely.

The only thing holding me back was/is nostalgia for old tech Twitter.

Hopefully that can be re-built here!

The longer I go on in this field, and the more Node.js projects I touch, the more I feel that "convention over configuration" is a great paradigm.

I gave up on Arc today.

My original intention behind using it was to be more on top of "tab management" - somehow I found I ended up with even more unruly tabs using Arc.

Plus the whole account situation still bugged me...
So I bit the bullet and (very reluctantly) signed up for an Arc account. The browser is seriously great.

I just wish I'd been able to use it without first creating an account...
I've been keen on trying Arc Browser for some time and finally decided to bite the bullet today. Downloaded it, installed it, opened it. Next thing? Create an account.

There is no way around it. You're forced to make an Arc account to use the browser... oh well, back to Firefox!

Just published my formik-validator-zod library on JSR.io !

Smooth and easy experience. Not having to worry about compiling TypeScript, shipping .d.ts files, etc feels like a pretty big upgrade.

In clinical trials of new treatments, when the treatment is clearly and obviously immediately effective it is sometimes considered unethical to continue to withhold it from the control group. Pretty sure we passed that milestone about a decade ago with basic income experiments.
Fresh basic income pilot results, this time from Arlington, Virginia where 200 people got $500 a month for 2 years. The findings:

Employment INCREASED by 16%, and their incomes from paid work INCREASED by 37%. The control group saw no such gains.

X was bad already but has gone even further downhill since they started paying people for post engagement. The amount of shameless engagement bait, even in software dev spaces, is staggering...

Overheard someone out in public talking about BlueSky today, for the first time! Word is spreading.

Looking forward to the day I can finally delete X because we've reached the tipping point where most devs are here anyway!

If you're like me and don't like the direction that both Postman and Insomnia have gone in - take a look at Bruno.

It's fast, git friendly, and open source.

Passkeys are pretty neat, huh? Tends to be my default option for sign-in now when they're available.

Next time I build an app I'm definitely going to support them. A passwordless future is going to be a lot more straightforward for most people.

Looking forward to the next major version of Svelte - specifically for runes.

They address the biggest personal gripe I always had with Svelte - fhe feeling of disconnectedness around labels and let doing one thing in .svelte files, and another in .js files.

Excited to build some stuff with v5!

I was struggling with an issue surrounding a set of function overloads that TypeScript didn't think the implementation was fully covering.

So decided to ask ChatGPT. It did spit out some gibberish along the way but provided the necessary clues for me to figure out the issue. Not bad!
