Known as GAFAS, we are an independent art organisation which turned 50 in 2022. We have about 400 members and gather on the Wednesday nearest the 15th of the month ‘twixt September and June (excluding January) to listen to distinguished speakers.

LAST MONTH on 15th October 2025 we enjoyed Craig Bryce’s detailed presentation with valuable insights on our new venue, the Trades Hall of Glasgow. Afterwards, Craig took the time to answer questions from the audience and also posed with some of the members of our Committee.

9.7.25 TRIAL RUN AT THE TRADES HALL.🙏We expected 100 members to turn up, but instead we had 220! Thank you for giving our new venue a go and also to Dr Maureen Park and Niall Murphy @MurphyNiallGLA for giving us their time to ensure things are up and running in 2 months time. 👏👏👏

Our final event (at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall) was on 18th June 2025 with Jo Walton. Jo delivered an excellent and well received talk. She is seen below with some of our committee. Next event is Wednesday, 9th July 2025 at our new venue, the historic Trades Hall of Glasgow in Glassford Street.

GAFAS OUTING TO BALCARRES HOUSE-What an amazing trip! After lunch at the Old Manor Hotel in Lundin Links, we headed to Balcarres House and its beautiful gardens. A tour of the house with The Earl & Countess of Crawford was followed by tea & cake and we were blessed with beautiful weather throughout.

Saint Andrew's Parish Church in the East End of Glasgow. Designed by Alan Dreghorn and built in the 1740s, this is the oldest of Glasgow's grand Classical temple style churches.
