A rare yellow grosbeak, native to Mexico, drew birders nationwide to a Berryville Ranch. Shianne Hunnicutt said the yellow bird has been visiting her feeder.

In December I purchased this Danielle Aubuchon water color of a winter plumaged Common Loon eating a shad, just like Danielle, our birding group, and I observed on a recent Table Rock birding trip. Great pick! #americanbirdingassociation #BirdoftheYear

I continue to check my hummingbird feeder every day. If you don’t expect the unexpected, you won’t recognize it when it comes.
Over 100 people, birders and non-birders alike, came to see this 2nd state record Calliope Hummingbird. It arrived 9 years ago today!

Meet the Wild Turkey. One of my favorite comics from last year.

A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a narrators says "Wild Turkeys are one of North America's greatest conservation success stories. Here to tell us more is a wild turkey." A beautiful wild turkey pokes his head in and says "Oh hello!" In panel 2, the turkey says "Look what I can do!" In panel 3, the bump on his head extends down over his beak with a "vlooop". In panel 4, the narrator says "Okay, that's... thank you." The turkey bloops its dangly nose thing back up to the top of its nose and says "It's called a snood!" The narrator says "Thanks."

13 years ago. Whooping Cranes! When I was a kid, there were fewer than 30 left in the wild. Thanks to concentrated conservation efforts and nest monitoring, there are now close to 600. Still not nearly enough to be sustainable, but much better than in the '60's. #endangeredspecies
