It is! I read it together with "Black Madness : Mad Blackness" by Therí A. Pickens. They both critically explore Blackness & disability (madness in particular) from different entry points. And using music/musicians (How to Go Mad) & speculative fiction by Black women (Black Madness..) is brilliant.

my students & i reflected more deeply about what it means to say “to resist, we must survive”. bc what becomes of the martyrs? what does it mean to measure revolution by survival? when we know we wont live to see the worlds we’re fighting for and yet still, resist.

it is a tragedy worth reading and reading and reading again about because of the ways it endlessly informs our present world, and keeps teaching us lessons about the innumerable way those in positions of power would market our lives in and against capital. it is the only creativity they know

We are so excited to teach the AFS 334 course this winter, focussing on film, photography and music among other art forms. It gets better every other semester. The aim is to make it timeless. Thanks Dr. @giramata.bsky.social for the flier design.
