Publication day! This was one of the hardest stories I’ve ever translated, both for the language and content. It’s also one of the most important stories I’ve translated. I hope as many people as possible will read it and reflect on the reality of war.

It is exactly 14 years to the minute that we first felt the movements of what would be a M9 earthquake that lasted for over 5 minutes, set off a series of tsunami that claimed the lives of over 20,000 people and destroyed the homes of over 200,000 more, and also led to nuclear meltdown in Fukushima.

Peace. Hold it close, cherish it, nurture it. It is more fragile than you may imagine.

From FB, but I reckon Bluesky deserves it too.

Epic day/night out in Tokyo, at Nonfiction For No Reason #2. Via Asako Yuzuki (of Butter fame) singing karaoke, ending at a mystery bar in Shinjuku sanchome ❤️

Happy book birthday!

‘Inaba is writing about love, the sort of love one could equally have for a human companion, about her pleasure in Mii’s company and ultimately, about grief.’

My village festival last night. Pity I can’t post a video here, as the battle between the omikoshi and shishi is quite spectacular.
