Crept over the border to Scotland nine years ago. Retired from schools where I was mostly daft, encouraging kids to shine. Went to drama school but got the fear. Walking, colouring my home, writing short stories and gardening when I can. Love food and gin.

My dad died at 12.30 am this morning. Could not sleep
last night and my mum rang me at 5.30 am to tell me as I was boarding a plane to see him for what I felt would be the last time. Saw him two weeks ago when he was happy and singing Irish rebel songs. That’s how I will remember him. #dementia

Walking along the Forth Bridge today when two engineers who work on it came speeding along in a lorry to stop a man who they thought was considering committing suicide. We walked on but saw him safely on the back of their lorry being taken to somewhere safe having a chat with them. #suicideaware

I’m gonna be honest, it bothers me that my fat fat cat who sleeps 18-24 hours a day and isn’t even conceptually aware of the very idea of exercise is still like 100 times more athletic than I am. Like I’m happy for him and everything but also at some level I hope he knows he doesn’t deserve it

After a rubbish day yesterday I woke up today to sunshine. Volunteered at the hospital and saw some lovely patients who shared their stories and then got hugs from staff. Sorted lots of paperwork and have got chips for tea. #glimmersofhappiness

Thinking about how much I hated the poem ‘Ash Wednesday’ at school today. Probably because of a vile English teacher and how he kicked me out of his class. Took me a while to love literature again. Bumped into him years later and he had obviously forgot this incident.
