Recovering people-pleaser, hoping for benevolent government. Far too optimistic. Gardening and painting allows me to find the strength to follow the politics 🇬🇧🇨🇦
As it’s International Men’s Day, May I recommend The Father by John Niven @nivenj1.bsky.social. Hard slab of satire and social commentary with a soft layer underneath. ( I’m also thinking about chocolate).

I have had the winter blues this week, so I threw for paint down while the sun shone and now I feel better.

Yesterday’s walk around Hulne Park, Alnwick. T shirt weather. Choc full of pheasants waiting to be shot by rich people. At least they took a day off.

🌱 A tree surgeon spent hours on my favourite tree, The Copper Beech near my house. I was anxious while I waited, but I think they've done a good job. And the people who live behind it will get some daylight.

🌱 well today I was going to start chopping down and dividing clumps. Looks like we will be delaying that until the first frost. Pretty good for Northumberland.

I’m still learning to use Acrylics. This is my first A3 canvas. This is based on a door on the River Itchen outside of Winchester. #Art

My visiting Canadian relatives left a thank you card (well of course). We showed them Northumberland. The 14 year old mostly hid in her hoodie and didn’t say much. This is what she wrote. I’m really chuffed.😎

This is a loose watercolour sketch ı completed a year ago when ı was recovering from a serious illness. I thought it was rubbish at the time. Now I'm OK with it. Funny how your health and energy levels can skew your judgement.

🌱 First Sweetpea in my new garden. Happy dance!

🌱 This morning ı am sipping coffee while looking out at my new garden, and the cat asleep in his cabana. I dont feel smug. I feel grateful, and ı wish everyone could have such moments of peace and joy.

🌱 OK, it's a small container, but these are the first flowers that I've brought in from this new garden, and I'm pretty chuffed.

🌱30 years ago I chose this resort on Crete for its gardens and lush grass for my baby to crawl through. I wondered why it was so long and full of weeds. Now I see the clover and butterflies and understand.

🌱Perrenial Wallflowers that were being turfed out by a neighbour in April. I rescued them and cut them down by half. I'm now being rewarded with a second flush. Feel like a proper gardener now.

Good morning. My journey into the use of acrylics continues. This is a little study on canvass. I actually had fun doing it, so that in itself is progress. #Acrylics

🌱 One lovely peony bloom. I had a false start with a bare root plant that never surfaced. This one seems happy enough. I look forward to something bushier next year.
