Let's just say that it's made any creativity I had leave, and it blows. Stuck in a four bar loop, unable to find the sounds to break the mold, and forget vocals, cause I can't afford to hire vocalists.
Usually I can find solace in production, but not as of late...

Kinda freaking out over everything, honestly. Already had a dumpster fire going on before the election, but now I fear for survival. I rely on SSA, Medicare and Medicaid (of which I can't afford the latter because my SSA income is too high. [BS] Also dreading the fallout on my LGBTQ+ peeps.

It's like writing. Nobody ever writes a book in one sitting when they first get started. Mistakes are made, formatting off, typos, etc.
If you are working with others on the game, maybe get their two cents on what sorts of tunes they'd like to hear, and then take it from there.

Some of us never finished learning theory because it caused us to overthink and underperform.
If you're serious about learning theory for your project, you'll eventually buckle down and commit to learning it.
In the meantime, if you have a DAW, just mess around with the piano roll or riff machine.

My general rule of thumb is to set my sys volume to 50, EQ samples/mixer tracks to -6dB unless too loud, limit if above -3dB or clipping at +0dB, compress anything well below -6 unless audible, then start mixdown from sliders at zero. 50/50 chance it works well.

Probably a mix of age, environmental overpressure exposure (concerts, pneumatic tools, loud PC fans, white noise, etc.), and physiology. It's not major, but the untreated tinnitus muddies the low mids.
Still trying to really overcome it, but I normally will use my ANC BT headset to hear better.
