This is a slight variation on a long-running argument used by people in Australia against #ClimateActionNow, despite us having high per-capita climate-damaging emissions and being in the top 1-3 exporters of coal and gas for years. Sad to see the German chancellor using it too.

- Masks aren't a free pass to break the law, but this won't target extreme protesters, it will target every day people
- For example for health reasons, people wear masks to not get sick, a legitimate reason to mask
- They also want to hide identity, due to family violence
