I’m catching up on my podcast queue, and I had to pause the 4 April episode of BBC’s Americast. It’s been 20 minutes. A guest from the Heritage Foundation was saying things that had me squinting so hard my eye were about to pop. Then he said … “The Laffer Curve is real.”

I propose a compromise. One Up First cold open in which most of your adjectives are arbitrarily bleeped.

I can’t think of any related case law on this issue, but I’m sure none of us expect any to exist. I know a couple of constitutional law professors that might be able to help. I’m leaning toward 8th/14th Amendment violations, since the U.S. can’t guarantee legal treatment in foreign jurisdictions.

There is a beef jerky display rack in the background. Clearly the point of the scene.

I’m grateful for whatever life circumstances prevented you from seeing a bunch of classic films so we could share in your long-delayed pleasure here. I look forward to hearing about your next cinematic discovery!

I wouldn’t trust a journalist who multiplies polynomials any other way.

I just watched your interview on @pbsnews.bsky.social, and something on your shelf immediately caught my eye.

Behold my loaner copy I keep by my side at work. (The plush owl is coincidental.) Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

The most memorable criticism of that movie for me came from Stephen Thompson during an episode of Pop Culture Happy Hour featuring @titonka.bsky.social. “It is what I would call duck-billed satire, which is - it is blunt but toothless.” www.npr.org/transcripts/...
'Don't Look Up' is an environmental satire that squanders its resources : Pop Culture Happy Hour
The new Netflix film Don't Look Up has a crazy Academy Awards pedigree. Writer-director Adam McKay won an Oscar for The Big Short and the Oscar-studded cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Law...

Have you tried disparaging the Eagles today? Just say something about the Steelers using a vanilla game plan because they were saving bullets for their game next week against the Ravens for the AFC North title. Tag Jake Tapper. Should take up your morning.

This nonsense is baked into the history of Silicon Valley culture. Such intense focus on a their personal visions of Utopia that they dismiss or reject the value of the present and the people sharing it with them. www.npr.org/2006/07/21/5...

Temu is solid proof of this. They ran a Super Bowl ad and now have a featured app in the Apple Store.

People who spend their time,
Reading words that rhyme,
Are more likely to hold the view,
That everything they read is true.

This is trouble and we know it,
Because a journalist is not a poet,
Their work isn’t thought to be right,
And the headline just starts a fight.
