Following our earlier recommendation to establish a puberty blocker trial, which has been taken forward by NHS England, we further recommend a full programme of research be established. This should look at the characteristics, interventions and outcomes of every young person presenting to the NHS gender services. • The puberty blocker trial should be part of a programme of research which also evaluates outcomes of psychosocial interventions and masculinising/ feminising hormones. • Consent should routinely be sought for all children and young people for enrolment in a research study with follow-up into adulthood.

groin coastal engineering Written and fact-checked by The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica groin, in coastal engineering, a long, narrow structure built out into the water from a beach in order to prevent beach erosion or to trap and accumulate sand that would otherwise drift along the beach face and nearshore zone under the influence of waves approaching the beach at an angle. A groin can be successful in stabilizing a beach on the updrift side, but erosion tends to be aggravated on the downdrift side, which is deprived by the groin structure of replenishment by drifting sand. Partly to counteract this tendency, often multiple groins are built in so-called groin fields, which can stabilize a larger beach area. See also breakwater; jetty.

Update, it looks ok, smells pretty good, and I can't test it in any way for the next six weeks.

Still recovering from surgery, I had time to develop some photos, here's Tansy asleep in a patch of sunshine. Taken with a Pentax MX and 40mm f2.8 on Fuji Arcos II, developed in Rodinal. I've never used either before and I love the contrast and detail.

I have nothing helpful to say. I'm stuck home recovering from birthday elbow surgery, here's a soothing macro picture I took this afternoon.

Other gulls are visible throughout the scene but only the central gull has any chance of snatching the prize. A photograph, the same man watches as the gull catches his bread in midair. The gull takes the centre of the scene, its wings behind it as it heads straight towards us, tail feathers fanned out and glowing in the light, it looks like a comically fluffy ball.

I'm really impressed with the lomography colour 400, never really trusted them as a brand before to be honest but I was wrong about this one. Got some 800 to try next.

Grew these pumpkins, the big one at the back is 10kg/22lbs. Happy October everyone.

Another pic from my wanderings around Nottingham, a rhododendron in the general cemetery.
This film was fun but let me down, despite careful handling all the images had backing paper mottling, I'm not sure if I'll trust it again. This shot works though.

Black and white photograph of a rhododendron which fills the majority of the centre of the frame. The image is quite high contrast with the leaves highlighted almost white. The canopy is domed upwards but almost flat based with 4 thin trunks which taper down to a central point behind some foliage. There are slightly wonky graves in various shades from black to grey dotted through the picture into the background which recedes into an out of focus canopy of horse chestnut trees. The rhododendron is simultaneously lit from above and behind meaning a bright highlight on the grass behind the tree causes it to stand out sharply from the background.

Don't worry, medial epicondylitis is mostly from explosive overarm movements, if it's not too bad you can switch to underarm while your tennis elbow recovers - just watch out for golfers elbow

Since I mostly use Twitter for arguing, here's some moderately artsy pictures of Nottingham on my Mamiya 645. They will be film photographs (on lomography colour 400) but it's going to be at least a month until I can develop them so here's what I can see through the viewfinder.
