Hi bluesky! Just a brief introduction: I’m a PhD candidate in evolutionary genomics at the University of Florida, studying polar bears. Passionate about horseback riding, painting, and exploring the outdoors. I’m an Italian that loves cooking (what a news). Here to connect with science people! 🧬🐴🎨🍝🏞️

Today is World Bear Day! When the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Honolulu (SSN 718) surfaced 280 miles from the North Pole in 2003, this trio of curious polar bears spent two hours investigating the boat.

Thrilled to share that our research on androgen variation underlying the three ruff mating morphs has been published in Science! 🎉 Huge thanks to @science.org‬ for the stunning cover highlighting our work 💫

Check out the publication here: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
A single gene underlies male mating morphs in ruff sandpipers, a new Science study finds. The results show how evolutionary changes in a single gene's structure, sequence, and regulation can drive significant diversity within a single species.
