The GDR was explicitly a Marxist-Leninist socialist state claiming to be on the path to Communism.
"Critique of the Gotha Programme" (1875): Marx describes the "lower" and "higher" phases of communist society.
Lenin formalized the terminology in "State and Revolution" (1917):
Socialism = lower phase = dictatorship of the proletariat
Communism = higher phase = stateless, classless society

Really??? Every one of those countries are capitalist countries with large welfare states, welfare funded by massive taxes on their GDP.
NOT ONE of them are socialist countries.

All those Nordic countries are Capitalist countries with large social safety nets. Not a Socialist economy to be seen there. They were headed to Socialism up until the 70s when they started running out of money, then came to their senses.
