The GDR was explicitly a Marxist-Leninist socialist state claiming to be on the path to Communism.

Lenin formalized the terminology in "State and Revolution" (1917):
Socialism = lower phase = dictatorship of the proletariat

Democrats are the only ones denying funding opening the government by refusing to vote for a clean CR, while every Republican has. Whether you like it or not.

The GDR called itself socialist, but was communist. It's like a president calling himself 'big hearted' then refusing to release money for food for 42 million people from a contingency fund set up for that purpose.

All those Nordic countries are Capitalist countries with large social safety nets. Not a Socialist economy to be seen there. They were headed to Socialism up until the 70s when they started running out of money, then came to their senses.

Nordic countries not Socialist, they are capitalist countries with large welfare states, funding welfare by taxing 55% their GDP.
That was not socialism. Look to Sweden, Finland and Denmark for examples of successful Socialism.
