JD Vance, DeSantis etc. very much want to be taken seriously

The most bullish case I can make is that maybe Trump is the only one who can thread the needle of permitting the spread of white nationalism while retaining electoral viability. He had crossover appeal as a celebrity and he gets away with it because no one takes him too seriously

When did he do so at all? It's one issue where Biden has been good for a strangely long time

You ever chill with baby lions? They can be sweet but they are kinda are stinky poopy babies

If Southern whites were only as red as Wisconsin or Ohio whites all of the former confederacy would at least be purpelish

It's difficult to come to conclusions in electoral politics with strong empirical backing. The sample sizes are small, the circumstances are wildly different each time. But conceding to far right framing on immigration has happened so often to no avail that you can definitively call it a failure.

Effective transitioning care and legal respect and recognition for transgender people are both a crowning achievement of modernity and I'm tired of people acting like that is not the case!

Depends on what you mean by "elite". Do you mean 20% in both income and education? Yes, those people have less of every bad ism than the median American. Those at the commanding heights of media and industry have been cooking their brain on rightoid twitter soup lately though

It will be funny to see how this evolves as the boomers die out. Vanishingly few people believe in the old supply side faith. Worse yet, republicans under 40 just do not care about policy. They don't even pretend to. Not a drop of wonkery in their blood

Collapse means something very different when you spend 90% of your life in one town and the "chief executive" is as distant from your daily life as the gods you pray to. Its something you can just fail to notice!

Aristotle argued that pessimism is really just a form of cowardice at the end of the day.

The answer to that will be determined in large part by John Roberts

Well most of California’s land use issues are down stream of policies adopted from when it was a Republican stronghold no?

Between this and the weird game MTG has been playing lately, it seems as if they know Trump/MAGA is going to catastrophically overplay his hand. So of course they want a Compassionate Conservatism 2.0 to trot out for 2028 and beyond.

Probably not. I'm tired of waiting for the stove. We won't be so lucky as to have something that jolts us awake. Steady, slow, poorly managed (but still managed) decline it is

Obviously many of the things that are considered "natural" for the genders like preference for the color blue or pink is a fabrication. But is there no bedrock of material reality that will make men and women consistently deviate in some way(s) across time and culture?

This is just what happens when non college whites are the largest constituency in your coalition. See the midterm massacres under Obama

Does someone have the "The final enemy of leftism: My MSNBC watching bitch mom" tweet? I can't find it and this is the perfect spot for it
