The most bullish case I can make is that maybe Trump is the only one who can thread the needle of permitting the spread of white nationalism while retaining electoral viability. He had crossover appeal as a celebrity and he gets away with it because no one takes him too seriously

It's difficult to come to conclusions in electoral politics with strong empirical backing. The sample sizes are small, the circumstances are wildly different each time. But conceding to far right framing on immigration has happened so often to no avail that you can definitively call it a failure.

Effective transitioning care and legal respect and recognition for transgender people are both a crowning achievement of modernity and I'm tired of people acting like that is not the case!

Depends on what you mean by "elite". Do you mean 20% in both income and education? Yes, those people have less of every bad ism than the median American. Those at the commanding heights of media and industry have been cooking their brain on rightoid twitter soup lately though

It will be funny to see how this evolves as the boomers die out. Vanishingly few people believe in the old supply side faith. Worse yet, republicans under 40 just do not care about policy. They don't even pretend to. Not a drop of wonkery in their blood
