Symphony of the Night (PS1/ PSP, 1997):
Ohh boy, this one. I was on board from the start. Exploring was fun, and combat was not too hard. The first Metroidvania I liked!
But halfway through came a GIANT difficulty spike that simply soured my experience, sadly turning it into a flawed masterpiece.

Really loved the Castlevania 2 callbacks, too. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to give it a go, actually! Seems like every other Castlevania game tries to pretend it didn't really exist, so I love how much this one embraces it.
Castlevania 2 remaster when, Konami? Oh, pachinko only? Okay!

Rondo of Blood (PC Engine/ PSP, 93/07):
This was alright. Nice visuals, great cutscenes, okay level design. Played as Maria, of course, which was the only way to make some of the stages bearable (it gets pretty cheap).
Love how this girl clowns on both Dracula AND the Belmont family. A true queen.

Eerily fascinating how two of my most favorite pieces of media are about a tall, green-wearing blonde who can turn into a wolf befriending a short, sassy redhead to topple an evil ruler together.
It's not surprising, but intriguing nonetheless.

This is something that bothers me about NightDive's remasters. Enhancements like this should be OFF by default. It is absolute poison for game preservation.
It sounds silly to say, but I think people should experience games even in their worst states, because that's how they released.

Heretic (various) (PC, 94/96/25):
Played episodes 4, 5 and the new one, and had a jolly good time. Nightdive seems to really "get" Heretic and utilizes the Tome of Power well.
Better level design than Doom, though fights drag on at times. Still, both are equally great.
Great visuals and music, too.

life really do be feeling like this lately ngl

Honestly pathetic what id tried to pass off as "real locations" in this game when they look nothing like human structures.
Even games like Duke 3D, Blood and Heretic, which came out only a few years later, did a MUCH better job at it.
Just embarrassing.

Pic unrelated, talking about Wolfenstein 3D.

nvm this level is the worst level of all time apparently
October 15, 2025 at 7:38 PM
For a level from 1996, this looks pretty dang good. It's awesome what you can do with a bit of sector lighting.

Jumping Flash (PS1, 1995):
The vibes are off the CHARTS with this one. I'd have adored this as a kid. Hell, I do now! Super cute FPS platformer where each level made me smiles. Only problem? It's too short! Well, at least it doesn't overstay its welcome.
And yes, you can play as a bunny in this one.

Death Stranding (PC, 2019):
Between the hiking and doing menial tasks, it feels like this game was made for me. I've put over 50 hours into it, just delivering stuff and building roads for others.
Story was long and confusing, but phenomenal, and I'm glad to have finally experienced a Kojima game.

It took me a good couple of days, but I've finally rebuilt all the roads in Death Stranding :)
Not sure if any of you are even playing the game, but if you are, I hope they help!
