Open to all that promotes openness and universal flourishing; against all that negates this.
Fine as far as it goes. But reason isn’t a dominant force, even without AI. And the reason for this goes beyond either “laziness and cowardice,” or “the reassuring certainty of subordination”. We need a deeper concept of reason and why it fails to take hold, or AI is likely to win out.

Just a reminder: you are NOT unusual, weird, or unlovable if you have:

- no one to see on Christmas Day,
- no presents, or
- no contactable relatives.

Very few people live the idealised version on TV. Those of us who live differently—whether by choice or trauma—matter as much.

It seems to me that the tradition or culture of black activism in the US is, and perhaps has been for a long time, well ahead, in both what it has to say and how it expresses that, of anything similar in the UK. As evidenced in the whole of this discussion.

The letter needs to be addressed not just to Zultana, but to many others on ‘the left’ (such as Stop the War) who have an incoherent position re Russia (and China).
This is an important and heartfelt letter. Unfortunately there has been a real blindspot among some people on the British and European left. We should oppose imperialism and fascism, wherever they occur.

We're facing a political emergency: a high likelihood of an shamelessly authoritarian government in 2029. So we urgently need this basic safeguard: a codified constitution.
This week's column explains what we're missing and why it's so important.

It means breaking with hundreds of years of tradition, but it can’t wait. As hard-right figures spread division and laud autocrats, a fail-safe is vital, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The language of politics is made up of absurd, obfuscating, abstractions. “Integration” is one of them. What on earth is that meant to mean? Has it ever existed?

Yes. But I still think that a majority of the population (maybe only a small one) reject this normalisation of a, very, reactionary mindset. The problem is that most of these remain passive, confused, onlookers.
It seems pretty clear to me now: Keir Starmer would rather lose to Reform than to the Labour left, which is his real enemy. Any policy that might recover lost ground with voters has to be struck down, as it looks like a concession to the Labour left. And he and his team cannot contemplate that.

Interesting letters in the Guardian today on the actions of the far right. A common thread is the intimidation resulting from the far right’s use, and threat of, violence. Counter demonstrations need to be properly organised to prevent this intimidation from working.

Yes. Although imperialism is, unfortunately, not just a system of thought, but one of exploitation and oppression.
Something we need to grasp is that Establishment power meant imperialism. Imperialism is a system of thought that sees upper class white men as the pinnacle of humanity, with a sacred duty to control the lives of others. What we now call the far right is an extension and revival of imperialism.
Why, you might ask, do the BBC and Sky News, casting their editorial guidelines to the wind, keep giving massive airtime to the far right, while shutting out leftwing voices? Don't their bosses understand the likely consequences?
Only one explanation now remains.
They do.
And it is what they want.
